My opinion this week(199):
Lifestyle
During new year days, we see a number of advertisement of
big corporation in various industries that try to appeal their
business philosophy in 21st century.
Among many of interesting ads, a catchphrase by Konebo
Corporation drew much of my attention. The copy says that Kanebo
Corporation will declare that they will become a lifestyle
corporation in 21st Century.
The copy continues to say something like the followings:
" Life style is a stance and a way of life to live to pursue
the objectives of their life in the most creative manner. The
firm wish they could help those infinite number of people as
such to attain their lifestyle.
The message was the best one I found among various ads appeared
in newspapers during new year days.

My opinion this week(200):
Theme of ML this year
I am looking forward to having days when I will wake up very early
morning in this year also. I would like to ask my ML(mailing list)
friends to share a good and exciting network time throughout the
year.
From the middle of January, I will write articles at a column in
an user club of a certain PC makers for about three months. The
main theme of series of articles is "my recommendation for intellectual
PC life". The target of readers are members of this user club, so
there is no restraints on age and occupation. However, I am putting
much emphasis on some of those aged group of people such as
60 to 75 years of old people. They are the people who are to be
left behind the advantage of Information Technology.
In this IT days, my sincere wish is that this article will provide
those age group of people with some help and advice on how they
can start new PC life. In January 1 issue of Asahi Newspaper, there
was a research report on the interest of people concerning IT.
65% people showed a great interest on networking but most people
showed some concern about their ability to comply with it. The
older in ages, the greater their concerns. That's what we can
expect.
In connection with those series of articles, I would like to
write about some of those titles as follows:
・My PC life
・How to enjoy Mailing List
・How to enjoy hobbies by using PC
・Let make home-page
・Enjoy chitchatting in ML
・Enjoy writing diary and personal history in net
・New music life in net
・Enjoy exchanging Senryu in net
・How to enjoy PC life with family
・How to teach PC to children
・Networking will change Japan
The above are just some examples of theme to talk about. There
will be many more coming up while time goes on. I look forward to
exchange opinions with my ML pals and other new friends in
the user club in coming days.

My opinion this week(201):
Taching PC to children
IT Promotion Law has been enacted. This country is trying to build
an e-government and introduce e-commerce in busines in next five
years. In order to fulfil such objectives, the necessity to develop
information infrastructures has been advocated. The necessity to
improve literacy of information of people has also been advocated
in the law.
As to those who works in governments sectores and buiness, we
have no doubt that they will work hard to attain the objectives.
As to those aged people who retired from the front, there is no
way but wait their self-effort. I have already written about it
generally. More concrete contents will be discussed in coming
colum in next three months.
The most important target of IT education is school children, of
course. The issue is how schools of each level such as elementary,
middle and high school and college will teach PC to children
and students in relation with subjects they learn at school.
I have no intention to discuss that in detail. But, the issue
here is how parents and grand parents are willing to teach PC
or help children to learn it in their home. It may be good idea to
learn PC together with children at home. But how?
In January 13th issue of Nikkei Newspaper, Mr. Suzuki, a teacher
of Keio Elementary School wrote about the importance of communication
capability as far as PC education is concerned. I agree with him.
What can parents and grand parents do to teach communication
capability? To exchange e-mail with children is one of a concrete
way to learn it. Through home-page making and exchange of e-mails
basic reading and writing capability will be taught at home other
than schools.
When it comes e-mail, text mails are, of course, main method. But
in additon to such text mails, it will be very pleasant to exchange
various other web mails using picutures, illustration music and so on.
That will enhance PC literacy of children in one way or the other.
One more important thing to teach children is programing in relation
with math and algebra class. BASIC programming is one typical example,
according to my belief. PC is a computer and I believe that it is
very important to teach that phase of PC to children. I believe this
is very important because I learned a lot from BASIC programming
when I started to learn PC for the first time almost 10 years ago.

My opinion this week(202):
Resolution of Adult Day's confusion
Outcome of two cases of confusion drawn at Adult Day's events held in
Kouchi City and Takamatu City is very different each other. At the event
held at Kouch, Governor Hashimoto thundered young men who were making
noise during his speech. He even said they should get out from the hall.
On the other hand, Mayor Masuda's speech was also interrupted by several
young men that exploded cracker against him. He continued his speech
after a few while without making any warning action against those
young people.
Those young people who caused confusion in Kouchi visited Governor
Hashimoto few days later to apologize the Governor for their deeds.
The Governor met them and talked with them for two hours on various
topics including how to improve the way to proceed the event in the future.
On the other hand, Takamatu Municipal Office and Police Station decided
to prosecute the case to a court as a criminal case. Those young people
could never imagine that they would be indicted by such small action.
They might have been realized that even such small action would bring
such serious result. They regretted for it now.
But I just wonder which solution is better in reality. I will not
deny some necessity for Takamatu Police to take that action. But
when we compare two cases in Takamatu and Kouchi, I would ask to myself
that which solution is favorable.
I certainly believe that the case in Kouchi was much better than the case
in Takamatu in every respect. The former was better in the sense that
some constructive plan how to hold the event in the future had been
discussed between the Governor and those young people.
